Trading (Allowable Hours) Regulation 2014  – 1 September 2014

Summary

An independent retail shop (not selling food or groceries) is required to be closed Christmas day & Good Friday; and Anzac day until 1pm.

  • Sections 4, 5, 6, 16, 17, Schedule 1

The government may decide trading hours for non-exempt shops.

Factories and shops are generally to be closed for the whole of Anzac day.

To decide the allowable trading hours of shops throughout Queensland. (Section 3)

Critique

Section 2 contains a reference to ‘Her Majesty’ which may be replaced with a modern alternative.

The section 5 reference to a ‘video cassette shop’ may be outdated.

Section 44 contains a list at subsection (2) that seems inappropriately placed.

Schedule 1 contains the word ‘buttygang’. This word is not commonly understood by members of the public.
